CFA Society Sri Lanka and Deloitte Partner to Host Knowledge Forum on Social Bonds Unlocking Sustainable Investment Opportunities

The CFA Society Sri Lanka (CFASSL), in collaboration with Deloitte, is set to host an exclusive knowledge-sharing forum titled “Social Bonds : Unlocking Sustainable Investment Opportunities” on Wednesday, 12th November 2025, from 8.30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott, Colombo.

The event aims to provide finance and investment professionals with a comprehensive understanding of Social Bonds and their emerging role in sustainable finance.


As global financial markets increasingly align with sustainability goals, Social Bonds have emerged as key instruments for funding projects that generate positive social outcomes.

Speaking about the initiative, Dasun Perera, CFA, Chair – ESG Committee, CFA Society Sri Lanka stated,


“Through this collaboration with Deloitte, we aim to strengthen awareness around Social Bonds—an area gaining significant importance in responsible and sustainable investment.


This program will empower professionals to better evaluate, issue, and invest in financial instruments that drive social impact.”

The program will feature an insightful session and discussions designed to enhance participants’ understanding of Social Bonds.


The presentation by issuer Alliance Finance PLC will cover the company’s approach to Social Bond issuance, project categories funded, and lessons learned through their experience.


The technical presentation by Deloitte will delve into Social Bond principles and guidelines, project evaluation frameworks, external review and assurance processes, reporting standards, market trends, and regulatory frameworks shaping the Social Bond ecosystem in Sri Lanka and beyond.

A panel discussion will follow, featuring leading experts including Kusal Jayawardana, CFA, Deputy Managing Director, Alliance Finance PLC, Chathumin Gunarathne, Partner – Audit and Assurance, Deloitte Sri Lanka; and Punyamali Saparamadu, CFA, Senior Vice President – Commercial, Colombo Stock Exchange, Eshani Thenuwara, Senior Vice President, NDB Investment Bank with Dasun Perera, CFA, Director and Chair – ESG Committee, CFA Society Sri Lanka, serving as the moderator.

This forum is designed for financial and investment professionals, corporate and sustainability leaders, regulatory bodies, auditors, assurance providers, and rating agencies who are keen to expand their knowledge of sustainable finance instruments.


Participants will gain practical insights into Social Bond issuance, evaluation, and assurance processes; understand both global and local regulatory frameworks and reporting standards; and strengthen their organizations’ capabilities in sustainability-driven financial strategies.
