Entries called for Western Shuttle Blitz 2025

Entries are now being accepted for the WPBA All-Island Open Badminton Championships 2025, popularly known as the ‘Western Shuttle Blitz 2025’, which is scheduled to be held from July 5th to 13th at few key venues in and around Colombo.

Organised by the Western Province Badminton Association (WPBA) under the sanction of Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB), the nine-day championship is expected to attract all top ranked local shuttlers, who will compete under different categories.


While the Mercantile Badminton Trust at Malalasekara Mawatha, Colombo 7 serves as the main venue, Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) and Lumbini College Indoor Sports Complex have also being named as competition venues for the annual packed tournament of WPBA.

Entries for the ‘Western Shuttle Blitz 2025’ will close on June 28th at noon.


The main draw seeding will be determined based on SLB Ranking as of July 1st, followed by the draw on July 2nd at the Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) Headquarters situated at No.28, Maitland Place, Colombo 7.


The draw will be conducted on BWF tournament software, and could be viewed live on the Facebook page and website of SLB.

All details of the WPBA All-Island Open Badminton Championship, or the ‘Western Shuttle Blitz 2025’4 are available in the prospectus published in the SLB website.

The opening ceremony will take place on July 5th at 9:00am, and will be followed by the preliminary rounds, leading up to the climax on July 11th with the quarter-finals and semi-finals.


The excitement will continue on July 12th and 13th with the highly anticipated semi-finals and final matches, followed by the Closing Ceremony to mark the culmination of this championship.

The championship will feature a wide range of events from Under-11 to Under-19 in the Junior category and Over-30 to Over-70 in the Senior category.


The main attraction of the competition will be the Open events comprising Men’s and Women’s Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

A prize money of Rs.750,000 for all events based on the number of entries will be on offer, in addition to trophies, medals and certificates guaranteed for winners, runners-up and semi-finalists of each event of the tournament.


Junior winners will receive appropriate gifts instead of prize money, according to the decision taken by the tournament organisers.


The tournament is sponsored by Mobil, Li Ning, McFoil, 3M and GAC.
