The event, co-hosted by the ICPC Foundation and Huawei, brought together some of the brightest minds from around the world to solve real-world challenges in technology.
This year’s competition, themed “Exploring Technology Foundations and Practices in the Era of Intelligence,” took place at Huawei’s Lianqiu Lake Campus in Shanghai.
More than 110 contestants and coaches from over 30 countries participated, showcasing the international reach of the event.
The main focus of the competition was on Memory Management for Large Language Models (LLMs)—a critical issue in AI technology today.
LLMs are widely used in applications like search engines and virtual assistants, but optimizing their memory usage for more personalized AI services has long been a complex challenge.
Contestants worked against the clock for five hours, striving to find innovative solutions to this pressing problem.
In a thrilling contest where the lead changed multiple times, Chu Xieting emerged victorious, taking home the First Prize. Chen Yusi from Tsinghua University, Hirotaka Yoneda from the University of Tokyo, and Zhu Jianfeng from Peking University each received the Second Prize.
The Third Prize was awarded to six other contestants from universities including Lobachevsky University, the University of Tokyo, and the University of Bologna.
The event also featured a Tech Salon and a Challenge Roadshow, where contestants, coaches, and industry experts exchanged insights on AI, advanced computing, and innovative problem-solving methods.
Since 2019, Huawei and the ICPC have co-hosted a series of challenges, involving over 100,000 participants globally.
These competitions have become a key venue for programming enthusiasts to explore cutting-edge industry issues.
In the past year alone, Huawei has contributed 87 real-world problems—ranging from software algorithms to broader tech challenges—to the ICPC and other international contests, drawing over 150,000 contestants from all corners of the globe.
Tian Xingpu, Vice President of Huawei’s Human Resources Department, shared,
“Looking ahead, Huawei is committed to providing more industrial challenges and collaborating with universities, contest organizers, and industry leaders.
Together, we aim to nurture talent, drive technological advancement, and ensure that the benefits of innovation reach everyone.”
