HNB Legacy Open 2025 A Celebration of Golf Camaraderie and Legacy

The HNB Legacy Open 2025, the flagship golf tournament hosted by HNB Private Banking, concluded on 30th August at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club (NEGC), bringing together over 60 players from across the island — double the number from its inaugural edition last year.

Played over two days in the scenic hill country, the tournament combined sport, fellowship, and recognition in a format designed exclusively for HNB Private Banking clientele.

The overall winner of this year’s Legacy Open was A.W.M. Riza, with 37 points.

The event opened on 29th August with a practice round followed by high tea at the iconic HNB Bungalow in Nuwara Eliya.

The main tournament and awards ceremony at the Grand Hotel were held on 30th August, where winners were celebrated across five categories.

Participants also competed for special prizes including Longest Drive, which was won by Thushara Rupasinghe with an impressive 315-yard shot, and Nearest to the Pin, which went to Ranil Pieris at 82 inches.

Reflecting on the success of the tournament, HNB's Managing Director/CEO, Damith Pallewatte said;

“We are proud to carry the Legacy Open into its second year and to witness the overwhelming response from our customers.

Golf, much like banking, is about patience, precision, and long-term strategy.

Having supported golf for over a decade, HNB has now positioned the Legacy Open as a premier fixture on the calendar, one that blends sporting excellence with the values of trust, exclusivity, and lifestyle that define Private Banking at HNB.

“The Legacy Open is about people coming together, sharing experiences, and building lasting connections.

Seeing so many more clients join us this year is truly meaningful, because it shows the value they place on being part of this community.

For us, every moment on the greens is a chance to celebrate excellence and deepen the relationships that define HNB Private Banking.” HNB's Vice President - Private Banking, Michelle De Silva noted.

Category winners were presented with Cinnamon Life annual memberships, while the overall champion received an exclusive three-day golf tour Hua Hin, Thailand, further strengthening the Legacy Open’s reputation as one of the most distinctive golfing events in Sri Lanka.

This year’s winners included Chulaka Amerasinghe in Division A with 32 points, A.W.M. Riza in Division B with 37 points, N. Krishna Kumar in Division C with 34 points, Mohan De Silva in the Masters Division with 34 points, and Keya Abhayaratne, who topped the Ladies Category with 36 points.
