Analytical Instruments Pvt Ltd and Appé Lanka Complete 18-Month CSR Partnership Supporting Education and Water Access in Poonakary

Analytical Instruments Pvt Ltd, a Sri Lanka-based company operating in the scientific and technical solutions sector, and grassroots development organization Appé Lanka have completed an 18-month Corporate Social Responsibility partnership in Poonakary, Northern Province, delivering sustained interventions to improve school attendance, strengthen access to safe water and support household livelihoods.

The collaboration addressed practical barriers affecting daily life in the rural region.

In the absence of reliable short-distance transport, many students in Poonakary walk several miles each day to attend school.

Through the programme, bicycles were provided to students identified in consultation with local schools, reducing travel time and improving attendance consistency.

The partnership also strengthened safe drinking water access for schools and families, contributing to improved hygiene conditions and reducing health-related absenteeism.

Education support included the distribution of school books, while Water Day engagements enabled students to participate in discussions on hygiene and sustainability.

Home gardening initiatives were supported to enhance household nutrition and small-scale livelihood stability.

The programme forms part of Appé Lanka’s broader development footprint in Poonakary, which includes the restoration of the historic Naranthalu Tank.

The rehabilitation of the irrigation system has improved water retention and supported increased agricultural productivity in surrounding communities, benefiting hundreds of farming families.
