The initiative, which was designed to commemorate World Ocean Day, was a powerful demonstration of the brand's commitment to environmental conservation through significant, staff-driven action.
The committed employees of Raja Jewellers took full responsibility for the beach clean-up, demonstrating the company's enduring values of giving back to the environment that supports communities as well as to the communities themselves.
The effort sought to encourage greater societal responsibility for protecting our oceans and address the growing worry of marine pollution, especially plastic waste.
Commenting on the campaign, Athula Eliyapura, Managing Director at Raja Jewellers, stated:
"Environmental conservation is now required, not an option.
We are honored to have spearheaded this World Ocean Day initiative as a trusted and responsible Sri Lankan brand.
We really believe that sustainability starts with action, and we hope that this project will encourage others to join us in preserving our natural resources and coastline.
Our team's dedication reflects our values and serves as a reminder that even the smallest effort matters."
The cleanup effort effectively removed a sizable amount of waste off the shoreline with the help of more than 100 staff members.
A total of 203kg of plastic, 166kg of tin, aluminium and cans, 17kg of glass, 6kg of cloth and 12kg of cardboard was collected during the initiative.
A total of 404 kilograms of beach waste was collected and handed over to the Panadura Municipal Council’s waste management team.
The cleanup was much more than just an environmental initiative, it was a purpose driven, team building activity, that brought workers together around a shared goal.
To raise awareness and promote community involvement, the initiative was also documented in a special video campaign that was disseminated via Raja Jewellers' digital channels, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
