Local shuttlers impress with 46 medals at Sri Lanka Junior International Series 2025

Sri Lanka achieved their most impressive medals haul at a BWF sanctioned event, with a tally of 46 medals at the Sri Lanka Junior International Series 2025, which concluded at the New Saniro Sports Complex in Naiwala, Gampaha on Friday.

Sri Lanka completed the first international mega event to be held on home soil with seven (7) gold medals, while also securing 13 silver and an impressive 26 bronze medals.


The young shuttlers representing the hosting nation secured berths in 13 finals out of the total 20, with seven of them being all-Sri Lankan finals.


This assured Sri Lanka of seven each of gold and silver medals, while the local athletes have also made it to further six finals, where the hosts secured six silver medals out of the total of 13.


Sri Lanka mostly dominated the Under-17, Under-15 and Under-13 categories, while reaching two finals in the main category.

India emerged as the second best in the medals tally with a total of 17, five (5) gold, three (3) silver and nine (9) bronze medals.


They completely dominated the main category, the Under-19 group, appearing in four finals and successfully securing four gold medals, while claiming three silvers following the three all-India finals.

Malaysia impressed with a tally of nine medals, winning four gold, three silver and two bronze medals followed by Indonesia, who finished at fourth overall with seven (7) medals, including three gold, a silver and three bronze medals.


Thailand completed the four-day competition with a solitary gold medal.

The Sri Lanka Junior International Series 2025 officially set off at the eight-court New Saniro Sports Complex with the preliminary round matches on Tuesday, August 5th.


The organisers, Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB), received an overwhelming number of entries from leading badminton-playing countries, including Sri Lanka, as the four-day competition show-pieced the country’s capability in hosting an event of high interest and magnitude.

The event, sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and Badminton Asia (BA) included competitions for shuttlers of the age categories of Under-19, Under-17, Under-15 and Under-13 under Boy’s and Girl’s in Singles as well as Doubles in Boys’, Girls’ and Mixed categories.

The four-day international event was supported McLarens Group under their leading brands – Mobil, 3M, McFoil, GAC, and Dr. Fixit – as the Principal Sponsors.


SLB officials, including President Roshan Gunawardena, Secretary Ajith Wijeyasinghe, Tournament Committee Chairman Dinesh Jayawardena and Organising Committee Chairman Rohan de Silva gave away the prizes at the awards ceremony.
