As part of this initiative, the Group undertook the refurbishment of two villas originally donated in 2011, providing financial assistance for painting, woodwork, furnishings, curtains, bamboo fittings, electrical upgrades, TVs and other enhancements.
These improvements aim to create a warm, comfortable and welcoming environment for the brave soldiers who have given so much in service to the nation.
The renovated villas were ceremonially handed over by Mr. Kosala Ratnayake, Deputy Chief Officer – Operations, David Pieris Motor Company (Lanka) Limited, to Brigadier Priyantha Liyanage, Commandant of Abimansala, in the presence of senior Sri Lanka Army officials and officials from the David Pieris Group.
Reflecting on the occasion, Mr. Ratnayake said,
“In 2011, shortly after the war ended, we donated these villas to Abimansala as a token of our respect for the war heroes who sacrificed years of their lives to protect our nation.
Today, after 14 years, we are proud to have refurbished them, reaffirming our commitment to ensuring these heroes enjoy comfort and dignity.
This initiative highlights that the David Pieris Group continues to follow through on its social welfare commitments, even after more than a decade, with a focus on meaningful and lasting support for society.”
The handover ceremony was also attended by members of the Group’s Social Welfare Committee, including Mr. Sampath Weerakoon, Deputy Divisional Manager – Vehicle Sales; Mr. Dasun Edirisinghe, Lead – Internal & External Communications, David Pieris Holdings (Private) Limited; Mr. Duminda Ekanayake, Manager – Recoveries, Assetline Finance Limited; and Mr. Nirmana Dias, Executive – Vehicle Sales, DPMC.
