The certification strengthens INSEE Ecocycle’s commitment to measurable environmental action and positions the company as a trailblazer in aligning with emerging national regulations.
The projects cover the co-processing of non-recyclable plastic waste at Ecocycle Puttalam facilities and resource recovery operations at the Malwana facility.
These initiatives reflect Ecocycle’s leadership in tackling plastic pollution, covering both recyclable and non-recyclable spectrums, leaving nothing behind, and ensuring a scalable, independently verified process.
Both projects were officially registered under the PPRS following rigorous assessment by Control Union Philippines, an internationally recognized validation and verification body.
The certifications, issued on August 26, 2025, will be continually reviewed annually against the global standards to ensure compliance.
Importantly, the PPRS framework is comparable to ISO-level systems, ensuring sustainable management and disposal or resource recovery of the plastic waste while preventing double-counting and guaranteeing accurate reporting, transparency, and accountability throughout the value chain.
The initiative also directly supports Sri Lanka’s national priorities for plastic waste management and complements the upcoming Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Act.
Proactively aligning with the regulatory framework, INSEE Ecocycle provides a ready-made mechanism for producers to meet future compliance requirements.
The company’s leadership in voluntary certification demonstrates its role as a first mover and trendsetter in the waste management sector.
In addition to certification, INSEE Ecocycle’s contribution to national sustainability is extensive.
The company already collects waste from over 100 local councils across Sri Lanka, integrating operations into a wider national system for responsible waste management.
These certified projects enhance traceability and integration of new globe standards in to the sector, supporting INSEE Ecocycle’s position as a trusted partner in Sri Lanka’s transition to a circular economy.
The PPRS marketplace further connects certified projects with businesses seeking to support verified plastic recovery efforts, enabling organizations and individuals to join as Sustainability Partners in the collective mission to reduce plastic pollution.
