HNB Launches Nana Savi Mehewara Nationwide Initiative Supporting Education for Children Impacted by Cyclone Ditwah

HNB PLC has launched ‘Nana Savi Mehewara’, a nationwide initiative to support the educational needs of children affected by Cyclone Ditwah.

HNB PLC has launched ‘Nana Savi Mehewara’, a nationwide initiative to support the educational needs of children affected by Cyclone Ditwah.

Through the initiative, HNB has activated collection points at over 250 HNB branches across the country, enabling employees, customers, individuals, institutions, and communities to channel support from anywhere in Sri Lanka toward the revitalization of education across the island.

Nana Savi Mehewara is designed to provide essential school supplies to children whose education has been disrupted due to cyclone-related displacement and loss.

With priority given to books, stationery, and learning tools, the initiative seeks to safeguard continuity in education at a time when stability and routine are vital for young learners.

Highlighting the role of the Bank’s extensive network, Executive Vice President and Head of Network Business, Supun Dias, commented,

“HNB’s islandwide branch network enables us to respond swiftly and effectively to national-level initiatives such as ‘Nana Savi Mehewara’.

Our widespread presence ensures accessibility for contributors while allowing support to be mobilised and channelled efficiently to communities in need.

This initiative demonstrates how the strength of our network can be leveraged to create meaningful social impact across the country.”

Reflecting on the commitment shown by HNB’s workforce, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resource Officer, K. Indravasan, stated,

“What makes this initiative truly special is the way our staff came together to lead from the front.

Our employees voluntarily contributed a day’s pay to kickstart ‘Nana Savi Mehewara’, reflecting the deep sense of compassion and unity that defines the Hatna family.

We are immensely proud to have initiated this effort as one team, standing in solidarity with the communities we serve.”

Through ‘Nana Savi Mehewara’, HNB reaffirms its commitment to nation-building by protecting education, empowering communities, and standing alongside Sri Lanka in its time of need.
