Fairfirst Celebrates Landmark 560th Road Safety Session in Matara

Fairfirst Insurance recently conducted a landmark road safety awareness programme in Matara, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to promoting responsible road behaviour among schoolchildren and the public.

Held on 26th June 2025 at the Rabindranath Tagore Memorial Auditorium of the University of Ruhuna and the nearby Matara Beach Park, the session brought together more than 1,300 students from across the Matara Education Zone.

Organised in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Traffic Police, the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (IRCSL), and other state partners, the event focused on building awareness around safer road habits and encouraging mindful behaviour on the roads to help reduce accidents.

This initiative is part of Fairfirst’s ongoing road safety programme, which has been active since 2012.

Over the past 13 years, Fairfirst has reached more than 300,000 students from 3,220 schools across all 25 districts.

Working closely with the Sri Lanka Traffic Police, Fairfirst has helped certify over 38,000 students as traffic wardens through hands-on training and live demonstrations designed to improve school zone traffic regulation and pedestrian safety.

Beyond schools, the road safety programme has also extended to the wider public, with over 200 road safety awareness sessions conducted across the country, educating more than 34,000 participants to date.

Reflecting on the programme’s reach, Steve Yendall, Chief Executive Officer at Fairfirst Insurance, shared:

“We believe that when businesses act with purpose, it can create a real difference.

Through this initiative, we hope today’s children will grow into tomorrow’s responsible drivers.

Change may not happen overnight, but through continuous awareness and education, we’re laying the groundwork for safer roads and a safer nation.”

Fairfirst extends its sincere appreciation to the Sri Lanka Traffic Police for their continued support and dedication since the initiative began.
